Library Master Plan Comment Period Closes Tomorrow
Should Normal Heights get a new library? Yes!
At 2,318 square feet, the Kensington-Normal Heights library is the smallest branch library in San Diego. The library was last renovated in 1962 and is long overdue for an upgrade. The new Library General Plan recommends upgrading the library to 25,000 square feet - ten times the space! This would allow the library to not only accommodate the collection of books our community deserves but also offer the many other services of a modern library such as adult education, special events, e-books, and audio-visual materials.
The current unfunded plan is to expand the existing library by another 2,000 square feet. This plan would only expand the current library to one-fifth the size of the recommendation in the Library Master Plan. A larger library would most likely need to be located in Normal Heights to be centrally located to Kensington, Normal Heights, and University Heights.
The good news is the City is taking public comment on the plan https://www.sandiego.gov/public-library/about-the-library/library-master-plan but you MUST ACT NOW as the comment period ends Monday October 9th!
Thank you for making Normal Heights a better place to live, play, and work!
